Introduction
This homemade wonton soup is a comforting and flavorful dish that’s perfect for any season. The soft, flavorful wontons are filled with a delicious mixture of meat or vegetables, then simmered in a savory broth. It’s the perfect balance of textures and tastes that will leave you craving more. While you can use store-bought wontons, making your own gives the soup an unbeatable flavor!

Ingredients:

For the Wontons:

  • 1/2 lb ground pork (or chicken, shrimp, or a mix)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 egg (for binding)
  • 1 package wonton wrappers (about 20 pieces)

For the Soup:

  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar (optional for a tangy kick)
  • 2-3 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Wontons:
    • In a bowl, mix the ground pork (or other protein) with green onions, chopped mushrooms (if using), soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, garlic, and egg until well combined.
    • Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with a little water and fold the wrapper into a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Optionally, you can form a traditional wonton shape by bringing the opposite corners together and pinching.
    • Repeat until all wontons are assembled.
  2. Prepare the Soup:
    • In a large pot, bring the broth to a simmer over medium heat. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar (if using), and stir to combine. Taste the broth and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  3. Cook the Wontons:
    • Gently add the wontons to the simmering broth, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the surface and the filling is cooked through.
  4. Serve:
    • Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring each has a generous amount of wontons and broth. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.

Enjoy this warming, flavorful wonton soup as a satisfying meal on its own or paired with your favorite sides
